2001, Ford introduced the Escape. It was jointly developed
with Mazda, and sold in Europe as the Ford Maverick. In
2005, Mercury released a luxury version of the model called
the Mariner.

At the time of the release of the Ford
Escape, most sport utilities were designed with truck
